National Institutes of HealthCloses Nov 1, 2026(19 days left)

Does this fit your business?

This is an NIH/NIDDK program to continue the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Genetics Consortium through up to 7 Genomic Research Centers that enroll patients, analyze biospecimens, and run computational genetics research. It fits established biomedical research operations, not companies looking for general business funding. If your organization has no research capacity in genetics, clinical cohorts, or IBD, do not bother applying.

Best for
Genomic research centers at universities and academic medical centers, NIH-funded biomedical research teams with IBD patient cohorts, 501(c)(3) research nonprofits and institutes, Small biotech and for-profit genomics firms able to join a multi-site consortium
Not for
Businesses with no biomedical research or clinical operations, Organizations unable to run multi-site patient enrollment and biospecimen analysis, Applicants outside the health, genetics, and research space

The application deadline is November 1, 2026.
How much funding can an applicant receive?
Total program funding is $6,400,000 with about 9 awards expected, and the notice describes up to 7 Genomic Research Centers. The facts do not state a per-award amount, so the exact funding an individual applicant can receive is not published.
Who can apply for this grant?
Eligible applicants include state, local, county, and tribal governments, public and private institutions of higher education, 501(c)(3) nonprofits, small businesses, other for-profit organizations, independent school districts, public housing authorities, faith-based and community-based organizations, and certain federal agencies and regional organizations. This is a national program.
Can a sole proprietor or single-member LLC apply?

About this grant

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive Diseases and Nutrition (NIDDK) seeks to advance its mission by continuing the NIDDK Inflammatory Bowel Disease Genetics Consortium (IBDGC). The IBDGC has led collaborative efforts resulting in the identification of >300 genetic risk loci for different IBD subtypes across patient populations and characterization of underlying biological mechanisms. Despite advances in biological understanding and the development of a range of biologic therapies, IBD remains a chronic, severe and heterogenous disease with no cure requiring multiple interventions over the life course. Diagnostic biomarkers and accurate predictors of critical outcomes including disease remission, recurrence, and response to specific therapies are lacking. The IBDGC will leverage patient cohorts, biospecimens and advances in data science to characterize the interactions of genetic, clinical and environmental factors in disease development and progression, and to develop new predictors of disease outcomes, with the goal of improving medical management and advancing precision medicine for IBD patients. The IBDGC may include up to 7 Genomic Research Centers with varying research emphases, which will serve as sites for participant enrollment, molecular analysis of biospecimens and bioinformatics and computational analyses.
